Jesus told us to make disciples. But being obedient in this is rarely easy or natural. It begins with spending time with one another and then having something valuable to pass on. Modern men tend to fall flat in both these areas. We're busy ... and don't know what to say.

It takes a man to teach boys how to be Godly men.
Our families ministry with Christian Service Brigade is about helping men and dads to set aside time and then having done so to have something of eternal value to pass on. Below is another amazing story about a 3rd grade boy who recently got to taste the sweetness of mercy because a godly man set aside a few minutes one Wednesday night. Before we get to the story I've included a few quick updates.

A Party For Bob Nass!

Bob Nass is retiring from his 35 year ministry with Christian Service Brigade at the end of December.
Don't miss Bob Nass' retirement celebration January 1st in Concord!

Though he'll be retaining his role as the Camp Director for Sequoia Brigade Camp we want to recognize his 3.5 DECADES of selfless service with a celebration.

Please mark your calendar for Sunday January 1st. More details will be forthcoming.

Stories from the Field ...

Mercy
Micah's body seemed to agitate with that kind of undisciplined nervous energy that wiggles through many 3rd grade boys bodies. You know, where it seems to be a physical impossibility for him to make eye contact and your 200 pound weight difference doesn't seem to help because he doesn't focus long enough to see just how painful it would be if you sat on him?
It was story circle time at a Wednesday night Stockade meeting and the kid just would not sit still or stop talking. Micah was new so Ranger Steve informed Micah that every time Micah spoke, moved, or in any way distracted the other boys he was going to be held back from game time for 1 minute. He quickly racked up ten agonizing minutes that he would have to wait alone with Ranger Steve.

Cool Reads: Practical Happiness: A Young Man's Guide to a Contented Life

My son Josh and I are working through this book together and we love it. Also, the young men who I have given this to actually read it! That should be testimony enough for anyone interested in practical Biblical insights into living a happy and contented life to pick this gem up and read it. But if that's not good enough, good friend of ours, Lisa Kjeldgaard, mother of 6 boys and 2 girls whose family is about to embark on their own ministry adventure to Kenya saw that I was reading this book and told me enthusiastically that if her kids left their home having taken to heart the lessons from this one book that she would consider them ready to tackle the world.

For parents who want something to assist them in family devotions, or a dad who wants something to help structure discipleship time with his son, or for a young man who wants insights to help him grow toward Christian maturity, this book is a great start.

Interesting, practical, Biblically sound ... and short. Click here for more information.
